Abstract
Partially underground visitor centre known as Archaeolink, built on the site of seven iron-age forts in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is designed to integrate with, and become part of, the landscape. Facilities include exhibition space, auditorium, restaurant and outdoor exhibition areas linked by bridges and earthed ramps. Glass and fairfaced concrete are main materials. Glazed cladding allows in daylight, while the oversailing roof and fabric shades prevent direct solar glare. An insulation cloak covers the roof and surrounding ground for 4m to help energy conservation and provide a green building. Working details of tapering eaves and glass balustrade. Cost analysis.
